Chelsea are reportedly attempting to swoop in and hijack Manchester United’s move for Blackburn Rovers starlet Igor Tyjon. Under the guidance of INEOS, United’s transfer policy has shifted away from targeting established stars to focusing more on youth talent.
This strategy was evident last summer with the signings of Chido Obi and Sekou Kone, and again in January with the arrival of Ayden Heaven from Arsenal—despite strong efforts from the Gunners to keep him.
The trend looks set to continue this summer, with United monitoring several promising youngsters around the world, including 17-year-old Blackburn prospect Igor Tyjon.
According to The Peoples Person, United submitted an opening bid estimated between £800,000 and £1.2 million for Tyjon. However, Blackburn have reportedly turned down the offer.
This rejection has opened the door for Chelsea, who are said to be long-time admirers of the England U17 international. The London club is expected to table a serious offer in the near future, according to RoversXtra.
Tyjon, who is capable of playing as a lone striker, on the wings, or as an attacking midfielder, fits the mold of a player highly regarded by Chelsea boss Ruben Amorim. He has already made two senior appearances in the Championship and impressed at U21 level with four goals in five matches—including one against Manchester United’s U21 team.
If United remain keen on securing the promising forward, they will need to act swiftly and return with an improved bid to fend off Chelsea’s interest.
