Should the Boston Celtics tank next season to make the most of a bad situation? With star Celtics forward Jayson Tatum likely to miss all of the coming 2025-26 NBA season and veterans Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis traded to other ball clubs to save money and flexibility vs. the punishing collective bargaining agreement (CBA)’s second apron, it is clear that Boston would be an unlikely contender at best, and is far more likely to be on the edge of playoff eligibility than a title run as currently constructed.
But is it even possible to tank in the league’s weaker Eastern Conference? And if it is, what about the flattened lottery odds? Just how hard into tanking would Boston need to lean in order to make it all worth it?
The hosts of the CLNS Media “Cedric Maxwell” podcast, the eponymous Cedric Maxwell and his co-host John Zannis took some time on a recent episode of their show to talk it over. Check it out below!
