Everton have been handed a major boost with Idrissa Gana Gueye finally signing his new contract.
Gueye faced uncertainty as his contract expired at the end of June, and it was unclear whether the 35-year-old would stay in Merseyside or depart again.
Everton have gaps in their squad after several first-team players left on June 30, but Gueye has followed Michael Keane in extending his stay.

Gueye signs new Everton contract
Gueye is a popular figure at Everton and has been a consistent performer in midfield over the years, and fans were eager to see him stay at the Blues.
However, there were weeks of uncertainty in which Everton were linked with replacements, including Wilfred Ndidi, and losing Gueye on top of everything else would have been frustrating.
Santi Aouna has now reported that Gueye has officially signed his new deal, and Everton are now likely to announce this imminently.
Pen has been put to paper over what could be a one-year deal with an optional extension, which will see Gueye play at the Hill Dickinson Stadium next season.
Everton to focus on attacking signings
Everton have kept several experienced players, including Keane and Seamus Coleman, beyond the end of their deals, and Gueye will now follow.
There is plenty of experience in defence for David Moyes, and Gueye will pad out the midfield further, but the Toffees are still short in attacking areas.
Thierno Barry is set to join from Villarreal, but fans will hope to see more names come through the door in the coming weeks.
Gueye’s new deal means that resources can be focused on these attacking areas, with the veteran continuing in midfield for at least another year before a replacement is urgently needed.
The Senegal icon started 35 Premier League games last season and is an important player for Moyes in the middle of the park.
