Some big claims have emerged on Thursday night, suggesting a breakthrough on the transfer front is almost here.
Fabrizio Romano kicked it off just moments ago, revealing that Newcastle have now launched an improved offer for Anthony Elanga worth £55m.
This comes after our £45m offer was rejected by Nottingham Forest last Tuesday, with Romano adding that Newcastle are now ‘pushing to get it done’ following ongoing negotiations with the East Midlands club.
However, some even stronger claims have followed from The Mail’s North East reporter Craig Hope, who reports that Newcastle are ‘on the verge of agreeing a deal.’
Not only has he confirmed that a follow-up offer of £55m has been submitted, Hope states that ‘significant progress’ has been made during talks, seeing us close in on the 23-year-old as discussions continue into Thursday night.
Personal terms are not thought to be an issue and Eddie Howe is a huge admirer of the Swedish international after attempting to sign the former Man Utd talent last summer.
The boss believes he can take his game to the next level on Tyneside, but is already a big fan of his electric pace and output, having bagged six goals and 11 assists last season.
