The addition of Lawson to the first team makes us happy. Chris Henderson, Miami’s chief soccer officer and sporting director, stated in a release that the player “has earned this opportunity through his dedication and performances over the last two seasons at the club. We’re excited about the depth he can provide and his potential for growth.”

Since his arrival, Lawson has grown and matured into a more complete midfielder, and we look forward to advancing that route with the first team.

In 2017–18, Sunderland, a former US youth international, also participated in the Portland Timbers Academy program. He has also played at various levels for Levante UD, CF Damm, CE Sabadell, and Spanish club UE Sant Andreu.
