According to reports, Newcastle United and defender Fabian Schar will start talking about a potential contract extension.
The last contract for the 31-year-old player at St. James’ Park was signed last year and is scheduled to expire at the conclusion of the 2023–24 Premier League season.

Given that Sven Botman is presently out injured, Schar is anticipated to play a significant role in the Magpies’ Champions League campaign. Schar was crucial in enabling the team finish in the top four of the Premier League last season.

The 31-year-old center back is a key part of Eddie Howe’s future plans, according to Football Insider, and Newcastle are eager to keep him on board despite looking for a new center back during the off-season.

Newcastle United FC on X: "On Fabian Schär: "Fabian has been excellent. I've been an admirer of his for a long time. He fits mould of what I want in a centre-back.

According to the source, the Magpies made a bid for Crystal Palace’s Joachim Andersen that is reportedly in the neighborhood of £30 million, but their offer was turned down just before the deadline of September 1 because Crystal Palace wanted closer to £60 million for the Danish player.

Schar paid under £3 million to join Newcastle in 2018, and despite the new ownership and significant team investment, Schar has managed to keep his spot in the lineup and make 145 first-team appearances.

The defender has been a part of 16 goals during his stay at St James’ Park and was an almost constant in Howe’s defense last season, starting in 36 of the 38 Premier League games.

The international player from Switzerland suffered a knock against Brighton & Hove Albion earlier in the month, but he appears to have recovered as he started for his country against Kosovo in the Euro 2024 qualifying matches over the weekend.
