Glen Kamara is expected to preserve his spot in Leeds United’s midfield ahead of Archie Gray at Southampton, according to Phil Hay.
Hay was speaking on the current episode of the Square Ball Podcast, where he discussed Leeds’ trip to Southampton and whether or not Daniel Farke will make any changes from the previous weekend.
Leeds defeated Watford 3-0 at Elland Road on Saturday, perhaps their best performance of the season, with Kamara making his entire debut.
Gray had started every game in the league and cup up until that point, but Farke has already stated his wish to control his minutes owing to his age.
Kamara had a fantastic debut start for Leeds, completing 92% of his 50 attempted passes and forging a strong midfield connection with Ethan Ampadu.
‘Suspects’ in Hay Kamara will remain in his position.
Hay expects Kamara to be given another start ahead of Gray for tomorrow’s lunchtime trip to St. Mary’s, with another hectic week ahead for Leeds.
“I suspect he keeps Kamara on the team,” he remarked. You’d be mindful of how to manage Gray, Farke, because he won’t want to stick his nose out of the joint based on Gray’s performance thus far.
“But he’s been saying for a while that Gray won’t be in every game and that there will be times when he’s not with the team.” Even though he appears to be a physical machine, they must take after him physically because he is still so young.”
It would be a prudent decision to keep Kamara on the team because, in the end, he does not deserve to be dropped based on his performance last week.
With another three-game week ahead, Farke will undoubtedly use the squad and give Gray at least one start, but Kamara deserves to start this game.
